The component projects of the North-South Expressway in the Eastern region in the 2021-2025 period are being constructed by investors and contractors day and night to strive to complete the route on August 19.
Investors and contractors of the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon and Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh expressways are focusing on completing the final items to open the technical traffic on August 19, in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Construction.
Total effort to bring 3 expressway sections to the finish line
The Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon component project has a route length of 88km. To ensure the first technical opening of the last 10km of the route (from Km79-Km88) connecting to the Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon expressway on August 19, the contractor Deo Ca Group and the consortium have focused on maximum personnel, equipment, and materials to the construction site for the remaining items.
The 10km section of the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon expressway that is about to open to traffic is located entirely in Gia Lai province, in the areas of Bong Son-Hoai Nhon Nam and Hoai Nhon Tay wards, intersecting with the intersection of Provincial Road 639 connecting to the Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon expressway.
Along this section, the road has been completed with smooth asphalt pavement. The contractor is rushing to complete the traffic safety system. The hard median strips are cast right at the yards near the construction site for convenient transportation, significantly shortening the construction time. Groups of workers install guardrails, anti-glare nets and signs.
Regarding the Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon Expressway Project with a total length of 70.1km, Mr. Bui Trong Lai, Director of the Project Management Board, said that Package 12-XL (Km23+500-Km70+091) is also nearly completed to open 46.6km of traffic on August 19.
According to Mr. Lai, up to now, Package 12-XL has achieved 91.1% output, meeting the approved schedule, and has basically completed the works of bridges, culverts, underpasses on the route and the roadbed and surface items, and has constructed most of the traffic safety items including: 38.87/46.59km of fences (reaching 93.43%); guardrails 39.11/44.11km (88.6% achieved), median strip 36.94/46.59km (79.29% achieved); road markings painted.
In the Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh Expressway Project, 61.7km long, according to the report of Project Management Board 85 (investor), Package 11-XL (Km0+200-Km19+800) with a length of 19.6km has been implemented since February 25, 2023, reaching 91% completion. According to the plan, this package will be technically opened to traffic on August 19.
Currently, the consortium of contractors TAG Vietnam Group Joint Stock Company, Construction Corporation No. 1, Railway Construction Corporation Joint Stock Company, Song Da 10 Joint Stock Company, Construction Service and Trade Joint Stock Company 68 is urgently completing the items for the package to reach the finish line.
Specifically, the contractor is laying asphalt concrete with a length of more than 3km, expected to be completed on August 12-13, and is also completing the traffic safety system such as road markings, signs, corrugated iron guardrails, median strips, etc.
Son Trieu Tunnel has also completed the left tunnel (600m long), the right tunnel (535m) reaching 100%; the road surface in the tunnel has been completed; construction is being completed, equipment installation, lighting, and the operator house is underway….
More than 221km of highway open
With only one week left until the technical opening, Mr. Bui Trong Lai, Executive Director of the Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh Expressway Project, said that at the construction site, contractors have mobilized 246 machines and equipment, 726 construction workers to serve 28 construction teams including 4 tunnel construction teams, 11 roadbed construction teams and 13 bridge construction teams.
“Taking advantage of favorable weather, contractors have increased their construction workforce to work in “3 shifts, 4 teams” to ensure progress. The supervision consulting team is always there, providing instructions and evaluating the quality of each construction item. Project Management Board 85 also requires contractors to make great efforts and determination to complete the package in time for the technical opening on August 19,” Mr. Lai affirmed.
A representative of the Department of Construction Investment and Management (Ministry of Construction) said that in order to implement the Prime Minister’s direction, in recent days, leaders of the Ministry of Construction and project management boards have been continuously present at the sites of expressway projects scheduled to open to traffic on August 19 to directly supervise progress and discuss with localities and investors solutions to remove remaining obstacles.
According to the report of the Ministry of Construction, by August 19, 7 component projects of the North-South Expressway Project in the East phase 2021-2025 will complete the main route with a total length of more than 221km including: Vung Ang-Bung (55.34km), Van Ninh-Cam Lo (65.55km) and the remaining 13km of the Van Phong-Nha Trang expressway section, some sections of the Quang Ngai-Hoai Nhon section (10/88km), Hoai Nhon-Quy Nhon (46.6/70km), Quy Nhon-Chi Thanh (19.6/62km) and the Hoa Lien-Tuy Loan project (11.47km) will be opened to traffic.
